Maternity Photoshoot at Focus in Toronto & Mississauga

You're growing a human. You deserve photos that actually look like how you feel, and you don't need a full-day session or a stranger telling you where to put your hands.

Maternity photoshoot at Focus is one of the most relaxed ways to do a maternity shoot. It's a private room, your music, and a remote in your hand. Here's everything you need to know before you book.

Why a Focus - self-portrait studio works for maternity

It's private. Nobody is watching you. You can try the pose, laugh at the pose, and try it again without an audience.

You're in control. You trigger the camera, so you decide when it's a good angle and when you need a breather. That matters when your energy changes by the hour.

It's short. A 30 or 60 minute session is plenty, and you can sit down whenever you need to.

It's easy to bring people in. Partners, kids and pets are welcome in our Ultimate Focus and Editorial studios, so the whole crew can be in the frame.

The photos are right there. Pick your favourites and walk out with instant prints and your digital files. No weeks of waiting.

When to book your maternity shoot

Most people book somewhere between 28 and 36 weeks, when the bump is clearly round but you're still comfortable standing and moving. Earlier is fine too, and many people prefer a few sessions across their pregnancy. If you're unsure, book on the earlier side. Babies don't always follow the calendar.

What to wear

Bring two or three options and change between looks in the studio. Things that photograph well:

  • Fitted pieces that show the bump's shape: ribbed knits, bodysuits, stretch dresses

  • Flowing dresses or robes for movement and softer silhouettes

  • A plain white shirt or bralette with jeans for a classic look

  • One bold colour if you want something that pops against a neutral backdrop

Wear comfortable underlayers and skip tight waistbands for a few hours before. They leave marks that show up on camera.

Which studio is right for you

Ultimate Focus is the best fit if you want variety. You can shoot full body, half body and headshots, and change backdrops multiple times in one session. It also has the most room for partners, kids and pets.

Editorial is for anyone who wants guidance. A photographer is in the room, there's a pose guide, and your photos come retouched. If you're nervous about posing, start here.

Project Focus is for something more artistic. Projected visuals land directly on you for cinematic half body portraits and headshots. It's a very different look from a classic maternity shoot.

What to bring

  • Your outfits, plus shoes or barefoot-friendly options

  • Any special items: ultrasound photos, baby shoes, a sentimental piece of jewellery

  • Your partner, kids or dog, if you'd like them in some shots

Pose ideas to try

  • Side profile with both hands cradling the bump

  • Facing the camera, one hand above and one below

  • Seated with a gentle forward lean

  • Partner standing behind with hands joined over yours

  • A close-up of hands on the bump

  • A relaxed laugh, because the unposed ones are often the favourites
